CHARLOTTE, NC - A 51-year-old woman is being remembered as a hero after she saved the life of a 3-year-old toddler who ran out in the road to chase a ball.
Lydia Morales Garcia noticed a 3-year-old toddler run out into the street to chase a ball. Garcia immediately ran out into the road and pushed the child out of the busy street just as a truck struck her.
Garcia was transported to the hospital where she died from her injuries. The toddler, who was also transported to the hospital to be checked out, escaped without any injuries.
Garcia's family said that Garcia had recently been hospitalized with COVID-19 and they were concerned she wouldn't survive.
A GoFundMe page set up to help the family with funeral expenses states, “We almost lost her to covid-19 about a month ago but she fought, and she made it out. God gave us another chance to spend time with her, and to celebrate another birthday with her, but sadly that is all we got. We’re so thankful that these last few weeks we were able to spend time with her, that these last few moments we got with her were to celebrate her and how strong she was. She was a loving, hard-working, and caring person, she loved being with her family and we will all miss her dearly.”
Thank you for being a hero Lydia. May you rest in peace.
