LODI, CA - A police officer is a hero today after she pulled a man to safety less than a second before he was about to be struck by a train.
Officer Urrea was on patrol when she saw a male in a wheelchair on the train tracks. Officer Urrea noticed the wheelchair was stuck and the male could not get off of the tracks.
Just as Officer Urrea noticed the male, the railroad crossing arms began to come down as a train was approaching. Officer Urrea noticed the speeding train barreling towards the male and she quickly got out of her car and ran over to the male.
Officer Urrea pulled the male out of his wheelchair less than a second before the train struck him and they both fell to the ground.
The 66 year old male was transported to the local hospital for a leg injury.
Lodi Police Department said in a statement that, “Officer Urrea risked her own life to save another and her actions prevented a tragedy today. We are extremely proud of Officer Erica Urrea and her heroism.”
