Teen saves officer from sinking boat
A Tuscaloosa, Alabama teen is being called a hero after saving a police officer from a sinking boat.
15 year old Grady McClendon was out boating on Lake Tuscaloosa looking for a good spot to fish when he discovered a boat that was on fire. Grady quickly called Tuscaloosa Police and Fire Department to report the incident.
A Tuscaloosa Marine Patrol unit was first on scene and an officer from the marine patrol, hooked up the now smoldering boat to his, and began towing it to shore. The Tuscaloosa Police Department wrote in a Facebook post that the officer who was towing the boat heard a loud noise and then the boat he was towing began to sink, bringing his boat down with it.
Grady saw the officer in the water and rushed over to pull him out and onto his boat.
Luckily, thanks to the quick actions of Grady, the officer did not sustain any injuries and is in good condition.
Since the rescue, Grady told 710 KEEL that he got a phone call from the officer, "He thanked me for what I did and I sent him some pictures of the boat. He's called me several times and we've talked about the incident."
Grady continued, "Anybody put in that position at the right time to do the right thing, is going to do the right thing."
You would hope Grady, but not everyone does, and that is why you are a stand up teenager and a true hero.
