East Haven teen, 14 saves drowning man from the Long Island Sound
EAST HAVEN, CT - Davin Garamella 14, was outside his home in East Haven on Sunday when a neighbor asked him to check on an elderly man who was in the water.
Davin ran over and noticed the man was face down and unconscious. Davin jumped in the water and pulled the man out of the water just as firefighters were arriving.
East Haven Firefighters Local 1205 posted on Facebook that, “While loading the patient in the ambulance he began coughing and regained consciousness. The single action that made this call so successful was the heroics of that teenage boy. Kudos Kid!”
Fire Chief Matt Marcelli said the Board of Fire Commissioners will honor Davin with a Civilian Lifesaving Award. Marcelli said that Davin, “seems like a very impressive young man.”
Garamella told WTNH 8, “Everything happened so fast, I didn’t really know what I was doing. I just knew I had to get him out of the water.”
First responders said the man is recovering and expected to be OK.
Garamella continued, “I would love to meet him just to hear his voice.
